Can I tell my sponsored child I am planning to see them on the trip? When will they find out?

To help minimize potential disappointment, Compassion asks that you do not tell your sponsored child about your plans to visit. While our staff may need to contact the participant's family beforehand to confirm they are willing and able to attend the visit and participate in related activities, we do not intentionally share details of your visit until closer to the actual visit day.

Our policy is to wait until you have arrived in-country and logistics have been finalized before informing your sponsored child. This helps ensure that travel arrangements and Fun Day participation are feasible and avoids causing heartache if plans change. Even with confirmed itineraries, travel can be unpredictable.

When the time comes, your sponsored child's tutor or another Compassion staff member will share the exciting news. We know it is difficult to hold back the excitement but just imagine the joy when you arrive! 

How many of my sponsored children am I allowed to see?

One sponsored child visit is included in the trip cost; this includes all child-associated expenses for fun day (venue admission, accommodations, travel, meals, accompanying staff and translators during the trip, entrance fees, and administrative costs). Up to 2 additional child visits can be requested for an additional fee. All sponsored children must be attached to your personal Compassion account.  

Who are the trip leaders for supporter trips?

We’ve selected highly skilled staff to lead all our Sponsor Trips. All leaders are employed by Compassion International and are CPR/First Aid Certified, having gone through extensive training in the field alongside our country staff. Each trip will have at least two trained trip leaders and, depending on the size, may include additional staff. 

Is it possible to book my own airfare and travel land only?

Yes. Travelers have the option to use frequent flyer miles or points to reduce the overall trip cost. If you want to travel Land Only, you will have the option to choose this in your registration. If you do choose Land Only, you will be responsible for arranging and paying for your transportation to/from the hotel/airport if your flight doesn’t align with the group’s itinerary. You will be asked to arrange your itinerary so that you can meet the group in the trip country at the designated hotel/location, date, timeframe, provided to you after registering.  

What kind of information will I receive to prepare for my trip?

Since registration takes place significantly in advance to your departure date, you will receive many electronic communications to help you prepare for your trip. Final trip details, such as itinerary, are sent approximately three weeks before departure. 

Is this the best way to spend my money? Should I just send it to the field?

Many children in poverty hold a deep-seated belief that they are insignificant, powerless, and hopeless. But nothing says “You are special, valued, significant and powerful” quite like a visit from a child’s sponsor. Joining a supporter trip demonstrates the profound value of and a lasting commitment to the heart of your child! When determining whether to give financial gifts or visit in person, know that both have wonderful outcomes. However, the immeasurable gift of meeting your child is an indescribable experience — for both you and your child. 

Do I have to sponsor a child to attend a supporter trip?

No, supporter trips are open to the public, and anyone can attend. We must warn you that you will probably want to sponsor a child with us before your trip is over!
